Leigh fan here, do you guys know of any good pubs in hull centre that serves good quality real ale. Looking forward to saturday, and a few decent pints would be a great way to start it.

Lion and Key on High Street (HU1 1QE) who also do very good food, especially fish and chips and the nearby Wm Hawkes on Scale Lane (HU1 1LF).

Both excellent pubs.

Ms. Terrorist v.2 is not going to be happy.

The recently opened Head of Steam in old town has a fine array of good ale. Worth a visit.

Plus, the Old black boy just across the road from Lion and Key serves up some good ale.
I do believe that the Old corn exchange, (5 minutes walk from the above mentioned pubs) is now also offering up some guest real ales.
It might be worth mentioning the fact that the freedom festival will be in full swing on Saturday, so you may also find entertainment on offer as well as the excellent fish and chips served at the lion and Key, washed down of course with that lovely ale.


If you do decide on the fish and chips option at the Lion and Key, make sure you get there early, as its a very popular choice and often gets very full around lunchtime.

And Sailmakers down High Street too.

It really is a fantastic area for ale drinkers. There are other hidden gems like Hop & Vine down Albion Street, but for a visitor to Hull it'd be best sticking to the one area probably, so therefore the above suggestions are all great.


Not sure about getting to the ground from there though, e.g. taxis might be very busy because of the festival.

Pop to the ye olde white Harte to. Always served a mean theakstons there. Old peculiar....fantastic. Second oldest pub in hull behind black boy.

You're not thinking of "The White Hart" near Dry pool bridge are you? Ye olde white Harte is still open, well it was in June. As Roofs says though, will it be a good idea doing that area with the Freedom Festival in full swing.
