"I never complain about referees, apart from last year".
He has no problems with the result just the way the ref spoke to his players!
Lots more but what will Powell do when he sits down and reviews the individual decisions and finds out Thaler got most of them right.
Cas lost their cool when they tried to raise the intensity after a poorish start from them.
Crosby and one of their guys got a talking too early doors, Crosby stood there whilst there guy answered back 4/5 times.
From that point they questioned everything and Gale was all over the place.
As for individual decisions from Thaler.
Solomona, no try - correct decision
Gildart half time offside - correct decision as he picked the ball up behind where manfredi knocked on.
Powell try, - correct decision - certainly more of a try than Maguire in last year's gf as he was facing sideways and ball came out sideways.
Dorn no try, - whether you think it was or wasn't (dorn didn't!) Thaler gave a try so Powell needs to blame someone else for that if he thinks it's a bad one. Ps didn't they score nearly straight after so????
Manfredi ball in touch - close one but I think that call goes with defensive team 9/10 so right call.
Sutton try - very difficult one - he went no try and I cN see why, once he did that then no real complaints about decision even though I think he may have just got it down.
Powell moaning about not getting a quick tap after that last one is a real classic!!!
Wigan kept their cool last night and the Yorkshire injustice chip on shoulder brigade in full flow, won.Der if they'd been reading too many forum posts from a.lot of wigan fans saying we were done and dusted, rubbish, wouldn't make top 4, etc. And believed it and couldn't get their heads around a wigan TEAM that clearly have the bit between their teeth.

Amateur psychoanalysis indicates to me that Cas have started to believe their own publicity.
Yes, they are a good team and they seem to have found an exceptional striker in Solomona, but if they thought they were going to dominate last night just by turning up, that was an error of judgement. Rather to my surprise, and certainly to theirs, Wigan did not fall apart under the onslaught of their big guys ... as a result of which they appeared to completely lose their heads.
They actually could have been pinged for a lot more than they were.
Constant backchat, regular offside which was punished nowhere near as often as Wigan's was, messing around in the tackle and kicking the ball away by Solomona (he was a frequent offender all through the game) - and moments of indiscipline, during which they couldn't seem to keep hold of the ball, persistantly put them on the backfoot. It's quite a long time since I've seen a player get so out-of-order with a ref that he's sent from the field. That indicates how pointlessly wound up they were.
The cooler-headed team won, and the fact that Cas and their coach are content to complain about the ref rather than learn a lesson from that doesn't bode well for the future.

| Well said fella. Dorn and Gale lost the plot on multiple occasions while our halves remained calm and bossed the game. If they hadn't done that Cas would've won I reckon.

| I think you're spot on there, juke. I said elsewhere I thought the Manfredi one was the one where Cas were hard done by, the rest of the big decisions were correct, with Sutton at least as hard by as Solomona, if not more so. To be fair to the ref, Sutton didn't look as if he got close to scoring in real time; a great effort by him.

Gracious in defeat is clearly not a phrase that Powell is familiar with. Can't see RFL being too happy with his comments about the ref who did a good job dealing with two fired up competitive sides. Way too much talking back to ref's (from all teams) and it needs sorting. Perhaps the RFL should also point out to him that there's way too much being said by Powell about their ref's, it's getting to be a bit too regular from him but maybe coaches shouldn't be interviewed when they're feeling the heat of the moment either.

Castleford coach Daryl Powell accused Grand Final referee Ben Thaler of losing his cool after his side suffered a 33-26 defeat by Wigan.
Powell told the post-match press conference he expects a fine from the Rugby Football League after claiming the way Thaler spoke to his players during the game was unacceptable.
Thaler, who was Super League's top referee in 2016 after controlling both the Challenge Cup final and Grand Final, sin-binned Castleford centre Jake Webster on the stroke of half-time after he complained about him not awarding the Tigers a penalty which could have levelled the scores.
=#0000FFWe don't want players talking to referees," Powell said "It was a poor call - there was clearly an offside - but it was poor by Jake.
"It was the way the whole night went, a referee losing his cool completely and that's unacceptable.
"He got dropped after he refereed us in Catalans and, if I drop a player as many times as referees get dropped, I'd probably be getting rid him at the end of the year.
"There was some unacceptable stuff. I'll get fined for this but respect works both ways and players need respect in the way you speak to them.
"The way he was talking to players is unacceptable.
"I'll cop a fine for this but you need to be able to say what you think at times. I haven't complained for over a year about a referee but I'm at the end of my tether."
Castleford, on a high after comprehensive back-to-back wins over Leeds and Warrington, led 8-6 thanks to an early try from Paul McShane and winger Denny Solomona kept them in touch with two tries to extend his lead at the top of the Super League try chart to 20 but rugby union-bound winger Josh Charnley scored the second of his two tries on 54 minutes to open up an ultimately crucial 14-point lead.

IIRC didn't Thaler get dropped because of the Thierry Alibert Fiasco?
Hardly Thaler's fault that he was trying to get Alibert to overturn a ridiculous VR decision by pointing out to the Video Ref that he'd got it wrong, bearing in mind ultimately the ref then said he understood the players frustration but he had to go with the VR call.
As for last night, Typical of someone losing their head.
Bring up and mention a dozen things that give the impression there is an issue but when you dissect each one individually you work out that it wasn't that bad at all.
It's like the people who read stuff on Facebook and Twitter etc. and get all worked up about it because they can't be arrissed to actually research the truth for themselves and go into some kind of faux outrage!
Using the Gildart offside as an example - Sit down Powell with a referee, go through the rule book and then tell us who was right and who was wrong? My mates a SL Official and it's amazing how much they actually do know when you sit down with them!
He's complaining about how Thaler talked to his players, How's about having a look at how his players talked to Thaler?
Numerous examples last night where they questioned what he said multiple times before he told them to "get Away".
Maybe he should have binned more of them?

I thought Thaler was great last night, my only gripe with him was why he didn't put Cas on a team warning for backchat.

| One thing that I would complain about is the walking forward off the mark by both teams. A couple of times players stood up and walked forward putting the tackler between them and their own player at the PTB. As a result things were a bit scrappy.

Or Solomona for slapping our players on the head? Of course not.
Tbh if we start sending off players for those kind of things we'd finish with about 3 players on the field. It's like some people expect the players to be robots and play with no aggression whatsoever.
