Just been on Ryanair, and they have flights to Carcassonne on Thursday, the day before the match for £35.00 one way. Just booked it, it came to £143.96 for the four of us.

How about getting home?

Not decided yet. But we'll probably end up having a week or so in the costa brava after the game, so I'll fly back from there.

Fly from Liverpool to Carcassonne, 1 night in a B&B near to the train station.
Evening out in Carcassonne, see a few sites.

Get up have breakfast, go to the citadel, then catch train to Perpignan. Check into apartment (I had a lot of trouble getting a hotel, or B&B that had a quadruple room, so booked an apartment just south of the river for £60, happy with that.)

Have a few beers, and watch the game.

Got nine days 'till we fly back, so will probably get a train to the Costa Brava. Not made my mind up yet, but a week or so AI in Tossa or Lloret will probably be what we go for.

Fly back to Manchester.

Great deal ! Carcassone's well worth a visit, the medeival city is awesome.
If you're in the town then The Celt Pub is a must, belting pub that was just around the corner from where we stayed.

Considering going over to watch the game, might book the Friday and Monday off, how much am I looking at for 3 nights in Perpignan?

This is only the second time I will miss going over to Perpignan, but the cheapest prices I could find for 3 nights were more expensive than a full week away somewhere, about £300 (I've normally been able to get there for about £180 for everything). I tried all sorts of commutations, flying to Carcassone, flying to Girona and a mixture of both, but couldnt get it much cheaper. It may get cheaper, the closer you get to the date, if they have unsold seats on the plane.

If staying in Carcassone, as we did last year, check the train times or book a hire car from the UK. Last year we could get to Perpignan on the train, but could't get back after the match, even though when I checked the trains from the UK it said it was possible. We ended up hiring a car out there and paying £130, whilst we could have hired one before we went for £51.

You can fly to barca from manc for about £65 on July 31 and you can get a flight from perpignan on Aug 3 to Stansted for £33.

Not daft are they these Ryanair people? You can sometimes get around the fact that they sell cheap one way tickets, then all the return flights are dead expensive, by booking a different airport/airline.

We went to Ibiza last year, flew out from Liverpool with Ryanair, then back to Manchester with Easyjet. Takes a bit of searching, but a couple of hours work can save you a couple of hundred quid.

We're flying out from Liverpool, then back to Manchester this time too. I was only able to do it this time, by making it an 11 day stay with a promise to the wife of a week sat by the pool All inclusive.



I've ended up paying about the same as we payed for 2 weeks in Benalmadena self catering last year, so I'm sort of looking at it as going to the game for free. Defo the best way is to combine it with your summer holiday.



Staying the Thursday in Carcassonne, Friday night in Perpingnan. Really looking forward to Carcassonne, ideally would have liked a couple of days there. My wife is a Big Kate Mosse fan, and has always fancied going.

You can get a hotel near the centre for about £60 a night. The problem I had was that none of them seem to do a family room, at least I couldn't find one. I ended up going on Ownersdirect and found an apartment that luckily was available for the one night I wanted. It was booked the week before and the week after, with a one day gap in-between, and he was happy to take my booking.
