If the above were to come into force, which I have no doubt it never would, how would these 500 + people arrested live? They would probably be forced to steal, creating a vicious never ending circle. So stopping their benefits would ultimatly impact more innocent people than those affected.

Punishment is needed, but something that isn't going to affect society in the long run.

Please don't be under the illusion that if we keep on giving these scum benefits they will not commit crime in the future.They are committing crime now and will do so in the future regardless of whether us decent tax players carry on paying for them.

simple..build more prisons and lock them away for a very long time..and dont give them computer games and a games room etc,may sound harsh to some but they are there for a punishment..let the time fit the crime

I'm under no illusion that those who undertook looting and mindless damage are indeed no angels, however stopping benefits, I feel, would be counter productive. Rather than having the X amount of money for spending on what they want, reducing that to a 0 will impact a lifestyle they are currently happy with, and so, to maintain that lifestyle they will turn to crime. That's assuming they won't get jobs by the way.

I think hard labour or indeed prison with some sort of punishment system, regardless of how well behaved they are, no PS3, no treats, just basic supplies and living requireents, make people resent prison, rather than having first dibs on the pool table.

I think the punishment in this country is far too leinient, shown all the time in the press, and more recently by the woman who killed her lover in the lay by a few years ago - just got out, name escapes me.

What about the ones who are working? Should we make them work for nothing?

They should be forced to spend their weekends clearing up dog dirt with their bare hands..

simple: dump them on one of the empty islands off Scotland and just Police the waters around it, or the time honoured
