Just heard about this but don't have much info to form an opinion, other than there is no place for it in RL.
It has been suggested elsewhere that flares were used & a steward injured.
Anyone shed any light ?

I was wondering this myself. Just after the game ended, the Salford twitter account said

Since then, there have been some very unsavoury images on both social media and in the national press. The Daily Mail seems to be suggesting that the players stepped in to protect family members after there was a crush, but I'm sure the facts will come out. In which case, someone needs to explain why there was a crush at an all-seater stadium. However, I wasn't there so I'd only be speculating.
Incidentally, Salford's twitter also says

so I'd suggest that's a good idea.
