| From an email received today from the Rhinos:
Celebrate Sir Kevin Sinfield Day this Monday
Leeds Rhinos are set to rename Monday 3rd December as Sir Kevin Sinfield Day in honour of their legendary captain, who will celebrate a decade as skipper next Monday.
Sinfield, who is called Sir Kevin Sinfield by Rhinos fans, was given the captain’s armband by then-Head Coach Daryl Powell on 3rd December 2002 when he became the youngster ever captain in the club’s history. In the intervening ten years, the Oldham-born star has led his side to 17 major finals, winning nine of them including a record breaking six Grand Finals, along with two League Leaders Shields.
[i[uThe club are also looking to use the power of social media to increase awareness of the achievements of the record breaking captain. The Rhinos are asking fans on Twitter to mark a decade of Sinfield’s leadership at 1pm (13:00) on Monday by tweeting a message and including the hashtag #SirKevDay. [/u[/iDaly added, “What Kevin Sinfield has achieved in the last decade is remarkable and hopefully the best is yet to come. A big admirer of his is Manchester United star Wayne Rooney and he tweeted to his over 5 million followers after the Grand Final about how good Kevin is. However, it would be great to draw the attention of the wider public to Kevin’s contribution to sport in this country and if we can get the hashtag trending on Monday it would be brilliant.”
Let's get #SirKevDay trending on Monday 3 December.
Great captain, great gaol kicker and great man!

| You missed out some of the key bits of this story, which are:
1) Monday (aka Sir Kev Day) is the deadline for early-bird season ticket purchases.
2) There's a one-day discount on lettering if you buy a club shirt with "Sinfield" on the back.
3) Season ticket renewals made on Monday go into a prize draw for dinner with Sir Kev.
Sir Kev is a Leeds legend and deserves all due recognition, but he deserves a lot better than such an obviously cynical commercial exercise.

OTOH he may be perfectly happy to help market his club.

I'm sure he is, but the marketing ploy still takes the edge of of the 'tribute'

He probably is. I find it baffling the fans who criticise or be cynical towards efforts made by their club to make money or sell/promote things when they spend half the year complaining about a lack of it. I'm expecting several posters to point out the double intentions of it all with their 'I'm too superior to fall for that scam' attitudes.

There's nothing wrong with the club trying to make money, but it's a bit grubby to call it "a tribute to Sir Kev" when it's actually a season ticket drive.

It's business. Season Tickets help pay the wages he rightly deserves and earns.

It's using initiative by using his 10yr captaincy anniversary to remind fans of the deadline for ST's nothing wrong with that imo.

| I think we shouldn't sell or market anything and just run the club into the ground.

| It's very important to associate the tossing-it-off ethos during the regular season with greatness.
IMHO of course.
