| both of them are very critical on how RL is being run, especially after the stobardt debacle - they'll be major players when superleague breaks away to sort out its own sponsorship deals whenever that time comes, and come it will

| That's twice Hudgell said we "got lucky" with Lineham, Crooks and Shaul. What does he mean? He looks a bit like Graham Norton in that photo.
They are both right to call out the RFL's commercial tery. But how they change from moaning to delivering a more positive outcome is difficult.

Just a strange thing to say. Investment in youth + giving them appropriate opportunities = more players coming through. You reap what you sow, surely?

Not sure it's that far a stretch, anybody that saw Ben Crooks regularly in the u20's certainly wouldn't have envisaged how well he's done since coming through to first grade.

100% agree . All you have to do is look at Leeds and Wigan as a blue print on what benefits bringing youth through can reap . Hudge knows and resents the reason why most players don't stay at kr very long (home grown included) . Nethertons testimonial this year will be the first for them in years , could be wrong but I'm sure Fletcher was there last one ?? Which speaks volumes

Are you including Andy Last and Lee Radford in that group?

Is that not obvious? Can't remember seeing anything were either of them said he was a star at u20's! Maybe you could link me to somewhere? I'd be happy to be corrected.

I think there are a couple of things. Firstly you have to cast your net wide enough to identify and get the right talent. You have to nurture the ones with the most potential. Then give them the right opportunities. In my (not particularly well-informed) opinion with Last we've done the first two well and Gentle was generally far better than Agar on the latter. For every Shaul, there's a Nicklas, but surely that's the point, you speculate to accumulate, get some winners, and the resulting pipeline is the consequence of investment, better quality development programmes, and quality of filtering. An element of luck may be involved, but Shaul, Lineham, Green, Crooks and Bowden all having breakthroughs in the last couple of years, with Cunningham and the two Tyson-Wilsons knocking on the door surely suggests there's more to our youth development programmes than just luck.
