| Chuffed for him today.
A few on here won't be. No doubt this thread will derail hugely!

I can't decide how I feel about him. Players leave, but the way he went about it annoyed people, and you can't blame them. Without doubt a good player though,

That's the only thing that annoyed me reading that, not that he said it, just that i think he's right.
Personally can't stand Union, not because of any petty jealously, i just don't find it entertaining.
I don't see anything wrong with people going to union 1) it pays more (who wouldn't go elsewhere if the money was better, why should sport be different? )
2) The lad grew up playing union and league, good luck to him

| Good riddance to him. He can have all the success in the world and there's no doubting his talent but his attitude and ego was not what we needed at the club at the time.

Got to agree with you ( it's just how he went that leaves a bitter taste), the bit in bold is the key for me. You can't blame players wanting to earn as much as they can, like it or not this is their livelihood and they will, for the most part, want to earn as much as possible during their working life. You have to ask not why they are leaving, but what we can do to make them stay?

| Union has a far better international scene plus the Heineken cup which is something different to what RL can offer.
Maybe in time the French will slowly improve and the draw of SL will be far greater but i don't think i'll see it in my life time.

| The way he left the club is the big reason why I couldn't care less whether I heard the lads name mentioned again.
Yes, he was a talent, very dangerous in attack but his defensive weaknesses got shown up time and time again.
Give me a Sam Tomkins at full back any day of the week!

| Mixed feelings about him. Want him to do well, but then it hurts me when he does so. Just can't stand the Gin and Tonic briggade. Would have been a class act if he had stayed but you can't blame the lad for making £££. I guess we could debate the salary cap all over again.
Was it better for us to let him go rather than pay him the money that Northampton offered??? Thoughts anyone??

| Not really that bothered tbh about Chris Ashton. He played for Wigan... briefly and had his faults (still remember a particularly lazy attempt at a tackle at Wakefield that let one of their forwards make a break like a back) and left for more money.
At that time, there is no way on this earth he could command the money in RL that RU were prepared to give him.
I've tried numerous times to be entertained by RU and it has consistently failed to satisfy me. The only thing I will say about RL players in RU is I do take some satisfaction in seeing ANY RL player looking good doiing it.
