Blake Ferguson is an Australian centre or winger of enormous talent. He has played State of Origin for NSW before off field scandal led to him being dropped.
However following a sexual assault conviction it seems that Blake Ferguson cannot get back into the NRL.
www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/n ... 7104064577
If this NRL position persists then Ferguson's only playing option would be Super League. But because of a criminal conviction he would be unable to acquire a British work visa.
That would leave Ferguson with only one career option: Catalans Dragons.
Could Catalans afford him? Probably. Could Catalans fit him into their overseas quota? Probably only if they unload another of their currently signed overseas players.
Perhaps that would give an English club the chance to sign Ben Pomeroy or Jeff Lima.
No doubt Archbishop Gary Hetherington would raise a ruckus if Catalans tried to sign a moral reprobate like Ferguson.
But if Catalans did sign Blake Ferguson, to play alongside Todd Carney and William Tonga. the Catalans would suddenly become a top 2 club.

| Why would anyone take him on?
Because he's converted to Islam?
Because he's really sorry?
Because he thought he knew the woman he indecently assaulted?
If he was any good the ARU would have taken the contract that Mundine was touting about for him earlier this year.....Nobody's interested.
And as for the "drain" on players...we've lost 3 FFS and this grub is no SBW, Sam B or Hayne...he's a grub!

Because he is a brilliant player. In terms of attacking skill he is one of the most potent outside backs in the NRL of the past ten years.
Any NRL club would want him. The Sydney Roosters have gone out of their way to try to sign him. Other Sydney clubs would be after him if the Sydney Roosters didn't have the inside running.
He would light up the Super League. His combination with Todd Carney, William Tonga and Morgan Escare would be unstoppable.

Any human being that spits on another Human Being and laughs is not worthy of redemption.....no matter how much his cousin pleads to the media whilst trying to promote a fight. Then there's the "female" element. He was found guilty of indecent assault. Do we as a game allow such guilty men to play at the top level? If so, what does that say to our wives and girlfriends, let alone the mothers of our future stars?
Nope...he can rot in hell. His new found religion, which he'll find isn't as popular as it was a couple of years ago when it was almost trendy can help him continue his good work for others. I know plenty of good people who do good work with underprivileged kids and they don't need an NRL contract to do it either.
Let him rot!

We are in 100% agreement here!
I thought Ferguson was going to be the next big thing, another Inglis but the blokes killed his career and shouldn't be offered any way of playing RL again anywhere.
PS the same for Ched Evans

| I find your attitudes to Blake Ferguson totally un-Christian. You have no concept of redemption or forgiveness in your cold hearts. A young Australian Aboriginal boy made a mistake, and is now trying to make amends.
We also have to consider what is in the best interests of the game. In France rugby league is a very small minority sport. Having a foreign Muslim convert exhibiting great athletic skill that is valued in the rival code of rugby union would surely bring great positive attention to our sport. It would attract bigger crowds to Perpignan and perhaps even increase the television audience. Catalans Dragons would become even more successful than the club has already become.
Blake Ferguson's on field performances, especially in combination with Todd Carney, would also boost public interest in Super League in England, and because of the proud Gaelic name Ferguson (alongside Carney), in Scotland and northern Ireland, and perhaps even in the Republic of Ireland , as well.

What a bizarre idea!! He could be called Paddy McSporran, and run on the field in a kilt, and it wouldn't make the blindest bit of difference to Super League interest in Scotland and Ireland.

| He is also called "Blake" which includes "lake", so I think him signing would generate interest in RL in the area of the Great Lakes, and the Lake District.

If he ran on the field in a kilt, then I am sure that the mass media would be very interested.
As for interest among the Scots and the Irish, I think that you underestimate their pride in having one of their own stand out in sports that have been long dominated by the hated English.

I think you over estimate its importance - although maybe in Leigh its a big thing?

Let's not be silly about this.
Actually, the fact that his given name is Blake will obviously generate some interest in literary circles, and possibly even some inquiries from the gay community. However once it is revealed that he is a Muslim, a lot of that appeal will dissipate.

| So because he has committed a crime and served his time, he shouldn't be allowed to play professional RL again? We may not like the guy for what he's done but should we really stop him earning his living?
