Pssst how much Gov?

As regular readers will know, I am about the only person in the World without Sky, so I get little chance to see Super League.
So, today I settled back to watch the Cup Final with some excitement.
I may be wrong, I usually am, but what a disappointment, yes, the weather was bad, but didn't we used to play in conditions like that every weekend? Remember Wembley 1968?
Was the amount of dropped ball due to the weather? or simply poor passing and poor anticipation of the pass?
Was it excellent defence or a lack of attacking enterprise?
A lot of empty seats, there was a time when you couldn't get a ticket.
When I saw Big Nige introduced to the players I thought blimey where's he going to sit, then the camera panned to an area where there were eight empty seats and them my query was answered.
So come on you lucky Sky owners, was this a true example of Super League or was it just a bad day at the office.
O'h and you moan about Stevo and Eddie, ( I think that's what they are called) surely they are better than Jonathan Davies.

ps check out the RFL's advertisement for the World Cup on Talksport, Ray French (a great player and commentator) with his dulcet Northern tone is sure to put anyone off south of the M62 corridor.

I also noted a number of kids holding flags leading the players onto the pitch. All wearing different teams shirts on. But only SL teams, where were the Championship teams shirts? Or is it only SL teams that are in the Challenge Cup and the RFL?

I suppose there are two answers,
1. Only Super League clubs can get to the Final.
2. The RFL don't know the Championship exists.
Take your pick, but, a very good point.

Today was exceptionally bad, maybe not helped by the conditions, but I was bored stiff watching that. When Wigan got 2 scores ahead it was "game over". Hull couldn't have scored in a brothel. True example? As I say, today was more bad than usual, but there have been some pretty dire SL games this season. Put it this way, if it wasn't for the soccer I wouldn't subscribe to Sky Sports .... at any cost.




Eddie and Stevo are getting worse. The Whinos (3icon_cool.gif v Widnes (2icon_cool.gif match a couple of months ago ....... because Widnes didn't get thrashed it was ..... Eddie - "Hey, this franchise system is really working" .... Stevo .... "Yes .... there's a lot to say about this franchise system. Over to you Brian (Carney)". "Oooooo yes, a great effort by the Vikings. Great endorsement for the franchise system". Do NOT subscribe to SKY if you hate the injustice of the franchise system. Stevo in particular is extremely iritating and exceptionally thick.

To be fair, I heard they did ask the Championship League leaders to send a supporter to form the guard of honour,
Unfortunately all 207 of them were at Meadowhall

It was a crap final, a very poor advert for our sport on & off the field & if that was a 78,000 attendance the RFL must class us all as thick. The referee made some almighty clangers today & if Jamie Childs was deserving of the reserve ref berth on form or experience then I must have been watching the wrong games on tv all season.


Utter garbage, a massive let down all round today.

It was a poor advert for the game, and truly awful that Hull and Wigan couldn't fill the ground. Not that we would get anywhere near filling half Wembley, but they are 2 of the best supported teams in the game and they couldn't muster enough support to fill every seat.

The one interesting point is that the BBC pinched the idea from Premier to have the video ref (including having the same individual) talking through the decisions.

Still can't get it right tho'........ "Oh aye, hey up ....... Tomkins is onside. Yep it's ok like". No it wasn't. He was a yard offside, you could see by the "cut of the grass". Even Ganson *cough* would have got that one right.

A foot rather than a yard, but yes, he was offside.

Bloody hell HalifaxJohn, here is a first....I completely agree with your analysis of the game.

Hull were shocking, Poor Crooks had a nightmare. 18+ FC handling errors I reckon and you can't blame the weather/ball for many of them....bad technique. Thought the pie lad who scored down the far left with a right turn of pace did well, and thought Tomkins was quality throughout. The bravery to take that ball in the first half was what Hull lacked 10 mins later. I was shocked at the quality of the game and not a good advert for non sky subscribers that only see 8 or 9 games a season on BBC.

The game was classed as a sell out. Hull & Wigan sold all of their allocation. Both ends were rammed....you might have seen the Elland lads in their Superman outfits? All of the empty seats that we saw on TV were all sold too. Fantastic that we can get a cup final ticket for £12 but the downside is that clubs snap them up early doors before all of the drop outs.
