| As people couldn't discuss it properly before and with reference to Dally's post.
I have to say that as an expat I've seen photos of London from friends on facebook and it all looks wonderful.
Evoking happy memories of childhood and the Silver Jubilee in ’77, the street parties, all the things put on for us kids at the time and the whole sense of fun.
As an expat, me seeing this sense of pride back home is rather nice. After years of being told how you can act or think. It's actually refreshing to see people flying the flag with a sense of respect and pride.
It's not out of some out and out xenophobic nationalism as we're led to believe would always be the case from flag wavers.

| I saw an advert on Sky news about the Jubilee and one of the lines was something like "60 years, what an achievement" I almost felt like putting my foot through the tele. I find the whole occasion a bit nauseating, I'd rather go to work if I'm honest.

I think the monarchy and all its trappings are out of place in 2012.

| Just shows how out of touch so many are on here. The vast majority (80%) of the public love her majesty. The monarchy is currently at a high in popularity.
For Charlie, Jack, etc - here's an offer you can't refuse - come and work for us on the bank holiday (for free).

The fact that a particular view is popular does not make that particular view correct. I would personally prefer to live in a republic and I am not going to change my opinion for the simple reason that I'm in the minority.

| I've mixed feelings, the country wouldn't anywhere near as important as it is without having such a hugely famous monarchy, nor would London be such a tourist trap because of them, you only have to walk down Pall Mall or go to Windsor to see the amount of people passing through all year round, and whilst there are many buildings that would still be there even without them people wouldnt come in the droves they do.
The next part is the Queen, I do like her, she does put the work in and always has, she doesn't make gaffs, doesn't belittle people and you can't take away her commitment to the country.
Apart from William, I can't really think of another royal I actually come close to liking.
As for the Royal Family in 2012, it's antiquated, but i'd like to see the figures on what the The royal family costs us compared to what they bring in to the country in money, if it's pretty equal which I would guess it is, then really, whats the point in losing it. If its a massive burden then let them go.
I certainly can't answer the question.
